The green protein smoothie is fully customizable to your taste and dietary needs.

Whether you’re looking for a gut-friendly, filling meal or a refreshing snack, this smoothie will be your go-to for a delicious, healthy boost.

This smoothie recipe is naturally dairy-free. I find that dairy products like cottage cheese or Greek yogurt dull the vibrancy of the greens.

Keep in mind that the same thing goes for berries. If you add berries to the green protein smoothie, it will no longer be green. That’s why I like to use light-colored fruits like bananas and mangoes! 🥭🍌

But if you’re not too worried about the color, go for it. The taste is what matters.

Green protein smoothie ingredients: collagen powder, banana, mango, honey, coconut water, matcha, almond butter, avocado, spinach, chia seeds.

Below, I have listed the ingredients I use in my green protein smoothie and a bit more about them. Click the ingredient to learn even more about its health benefits!

Spinach – A nutrient-dense leafy green packed with iron, vitamins, and antioxidants to support energy and overall health. Vary your greens (spinach, kale, romaine) to avoid excess oxalates!

Avocado – Adds creaminess and heart-healthy fats while promoting satiety and gut health.

Frozen Mango or Pineapple – Provides natural sweetness, vitamin C, and digestive enzymes for a refreshing tropical flavor.

Banana – Enhances creaminess, provides natural energy, and supports digestion with prebiotic fiber.

Almond Butter – Adds protein, healthy fats, and a rich, nutty flavor to the green protein smoothies while keeping you full longer.

Chia Seeds – A great source of fiber, omega-3s, and plant-based protein to support digestion and heart health.

Coconut Water – Hydrates and replenishes electrolytes, making it perfect for post-workout recovery.

Matcha Powder – Delivers a gentle caffeine boost with antioxidants that promote focus and metabolism.

Collagen Peptides/Protein Powder – Supports muscle recovery, and skin health, and makes the green protein smoothie a complete meal.

Raw Honey – Adds natural sweetness while providing antibacterial and anti-inflammatory benefits.

Lemon Juice – Enhances flavor, aids digestion, and boosts vitamin C for immune support.

Are green protein smoothies healthy?

Yes! Green protein smoothies are packed with protein, fiber, antioxidants, and healthy fats. The combination of leafy greens, fruit, protein powder, and seeds supports digestion, energy, muscle recovery, and overall wellness.

Is it OK to drink a green smoothie every day?

Generally, yes. Just rotate your greens (spinach, kale, romaine) and keep the smoothie balanced with protein and healthy fats. Limiting added sugars helps keep blood sugar stable. When made with whole, nutrient-dense ingredients, a daily green smoothie can be a great habit (as long as your doctor agrees).

Can I make this green protein smoothie ahead for meal prep?

Yes! Store it in an airtight bottle for 24–48 hours in the fridge. Shake before drinking. You can also freeze portions in jars or silicone cups and thaw overnight for a grab-and-go option.

What’s the best protein powder to use?

Any high-quality protein works: collagen peptides (neutral flavor), whey protein, or plant-based powders like pea, hemp, or rice. Choose one without artificial sweeteners for the best taste and digestibility. A lot of people use Legion or Vega Sport protein powders.

How can I make this green protein smoothie sweeter without refined sugar?

Add a Medjool date, extra frozen mango, more banana, or a touch of maple syrup, honey, or stevia!

Can I use water instead of coconut water?

Yes, water, almond milk, oat milk, or even brewed green tea work well. Using milk alternatives makes the smoothie creamier.

What’s a good substitute for almond butter?

Cashew butter (creamy), peanut butter (stronger flavor), sunflower seed butter (nut-free), or tahini (less sweet)!

Is this high-protein smoothie good for weight loss?

Generally, yes. Its combination of protein, fiber, and healthy fats helps keep you full and stabilizes energy. Adjust portion sizes or reduce fruit slightly if you need a lower-calorie option.

Can I skip the matcha powder?

Yes. You can swap it for spirulina, wheatgrass, or simply leave it out. The smoothie is still nutritious and flavorful without caffeine.

Can I add more greens?

Definitely. You can increase the spinach or swap in kale or mixed greens. If using kale, blend longer for smoothness.

Can I use frozen spinach instead of fresh?

Yes, frozen spinach works perfectly and blends smoothly. Use the same amount and keep it frozen to maintain thickness.

Is it okay to use cottage cheese or yogurt instead of collagen/protein powder?

Yes! Cottage cheese or Greek yogurt adds protein and creaminess. Start with 1/4-1/2 cup and adjust liquid as needed.
