Health Benefits of Each Lemon Ginger Turmeric Wellness Juice Shots Recipe Ingredient
Lemon Juice:
We love lemons in the Geiger household. Not only are they delicious, but they can also be used for lemon DIY cleaning spray, and many other ways.
The following list consists of evidence-based health benefits of lemons:
- Supports heart health – Lemons are high in vitamin C and beneficial plant compounds (hesperidin and diosmin) that may lower cholesterol.
- Helps control weight – Studies show that lemon extract and plant compounds may promote weight loss in animals. The ffects in humans are unknown.
- Prevents kidney stones – Citric acid may help prevent kidney stones by increasing urine volume and increasing urine pH.
- Protects against anemia – Lemons improve your absorption of iron from plant foods.
- Reduces cancer risk – Some plant chemicals found in lemons have been shown to prevent cancer in animal studies. More human studies are needed.
- Improves digestive health – To benefit from the soluble fiber found in lemons, you need to eat the pulp too. Not just drink the juice.

Ginger Juice:
Ginger is one of the healthiest spices in the world. I love cooking with it and especially consuming it in its raw form. Ginger has amazing effects on the body and is so beneficial to overall health.
- Ginger contains gingerol which has powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and may also help prevent cancer.
- It can treat nausea related to chemotherapy, nausea after surgery, and morning sickness.
- Ginger promotes weight loss and prevents obesity. It hpotentially helps increase the number of calories burned and reduce inflammation.
- It can help with osteoarthritis, especially in the knee.
- Ginger may lower blood sugars and improve heart disease risk factors.
- It can help treat indigestion.
- Ginger may significantly reduce menstrual pain.
- It may lower cholesterol levels.
- Ginger may improve brain function and protect against Alzheimer’s disease.
- It can help fight infections.

Turmeric Juice:
Turmeric is a root spice which has been used in cooking and as a medicinal herb for centuries. Many studies, including this one from Mary-Eve Brown, R.D.N., C.S.O., L.D.N. for John’s Hopkin’s Medicine, show that turmeric has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. These are said to have positive effects on the body.
Turmeric may also:
- Lower your risk of heart disease.
- Boost brain-derived neurotrophic factor (many common brain disorders have been linked to decreased levels of BDNF protein, including depression and Alzheimer’s disease).
- Help prevent cancer.
- Help with arthritis.
- Have benefits against depression.
- Help delay aging.

While on the topic of turmeric, I wanted to share a quick success story. A story about someone close to me who has been suffering from knee pain for years. She would take tylenol several times a day to try and alleviate that pain. Too much acetaminophen can be damaging to the liver, and so I started researching natural home remedies. When I found that turmeric is believed to have anti-inflammatory properties, I sent her a turmeric/black pepper supplement that I found with great reviews and success stories. After a couple of weeks of consuming curcumin with black pepper, her knee pain became very minimal.
This is not medical advice. I am not a medical professional; therefore, you should consult with your doctor before changing your lifestyle in any way.
Turmeric and Black Pepper
Curcumin/turmeric is poorly absorbed into your bloodstream when consumed by itself. To experience the full benefits of curcumin; it has been suggested to take it with black pepper, which contains piperine (a natural substance that enhances the absorption of curcumin by 2,000%)!
Turmeric Absorption with Fat
According to this article from UMass Chan Medical School, the bioavailability of turmeric can be increased by consuming curcumin with a source of fat. I use avocado oil in this recipe, but you can also use coconut oil or a decent quality extra-virgin olive oil.
Other fats that can be paired with turmeric to improve the absorption into your bloodstream are nut butters, nuts, fish, etc.
How to Make Lemon Turmeric Wellness Juice Shots Recipe (Without a Juicer)
No juicer? No problem. It’s simple to prepare these homemade Lemon Ginger Turmeric Wellness Juice Shots using a blender and a fine mesh strainer, which is much more cost-effective.

Wash the Ginger and Turmeric
First, you’re going wash a pound each of ginger and turmeric either with your hands or a vegetable scrubber brush. You don’t even need to peel it!
Blend and Strain the Ginger, Turmeric, Black Pepper, and Water

I have a smaller blender therefore I blend the ginger, turmeric, black pepper, and water in batches. This minuscule inconvenience is just not enough to make me spend $500 on a good juicer, or even purchase a bigger blender. This Ninja blender has been blending for me for years, and it will continue to blend for me until it cannot blend anymore. I’m sticking to it!
After the ingredients mentioned above are all blended into a wet pulpy mixture, grab a medium sized mixing bowl, and place your largest fine mesh strainer over the bowl. Using a rubber spatula, press the pulp through the strainer to extract as much juice as possible.

Pro tip: To prevent making a mess, don’t use an XL mixing bowl, as the fine mesh strainer will splash down and make a huge mess (as seen in the photo above). 😅
In all seriousness, turmeric contains a compound called curcumin, which is bright yellow/orange in color. It may stain your countertops, etc., so just be mindful of that when preparing these wellness juice shots. Thankfully, Better Homes and Gardens authored this entire article on how to remove turmeric stains in the event a spill or splash does occur.
I usually strain the Lemon Ginger Turmeric Wellness Juice Shots Recipe a few times to remove any excess pulp.
Add the Lemon Juice and Avocado Oil

Juice your lemons in a citrus juicer or similar and transfer the freshly squeezed lemon juice to the bowl of strained mixture, along with the avocado oil. Give it a nice stir.
You can store the Lemon Ginger Turmeric Wellness Juice Shots in large mason jars and/or pre-portion the shots in separate tiny glass vials for grabbing on-the-go, packing into lunch boxes, etc.!
These wellness juice shots are a bit spicy and sharp due to the ginger, turmeric, and black pepper. To sweeten them up a bit, I occasionally add a splash of elderberry syrup. Although I personally enjoy the taste of the wellness juice shots on their own, elderberry syrup may make the juice shots more palatable for some. I hope you enjoy this recipe!

🖤 Life Update:
If you follow me on Instagram and/or Facebook, then you may have seen some of the highlights from my trip to New York on my stories. Snowy views, Christmas cookies with my mom, the best pizza and subs, and special moments with my precious baby niece.
Getting to spend those two weeks with family for Christmas reminded me exactly why I’m wanting to build this life of creativity, freedom, and happiness. Can you imagine if I was still working at my corporate job? I would have been able to spend four days maximum with my family, and that’s only if I called out of work every day. Instead, I spent two weeks doing things that matter most in this life (with a little work here and there, because I do have a business to run)!
As always, I’d love to hear from you all! About your experience with this dish, any alterations you may have made and loved (or didn’t love), or just life and cooking in general. Please leave a review/comment/question below, reach out via email, and/or stay connected with me on social media, which I have linked below. Take care! – Jenna 🖤

Lemon Ginger Turmeric Wellness Juice Shots Recipe
- Total Time: 10 minutes
- Yield: approximately 1 quart juice 1x
- Diet: Vegan
Description
These Lemon Ginger Turmeric Wellness Juice Shots are loaded with nutrients that may support overall health and wellness. Making them at home is cheaper than buying them individually in the grocery store.
Ingredients
- 1–pound fresh ginger, scrubbed
- 1–pound fresh turmeric, scrubbed
- a cup or so of water (just enough to get the ginger and turmeric to blend)
- 2 teaspoons black peppercorns
- 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon avocado oil
Instructions
- WASH THE GINGER AND TURMERIC, THEN BLEND. First, you’re going to wash a pound each of ginger and turmeric either with your hands or a vegetable scrubber brush. You don’t even need to peel it! In the biggest blender you have (you may need to blend in batches), or by using a juicer, combine the ginger, turmeric, black peppercorns, and water until fully combined into a wet pulpy mixture.
- STRAIN. Grab a mixing bowl and place your largest fine mesh strainer over the bowl. Using a rubber spatula, press the pulp through the strainer to extract as much juice as possible. I like to strain the juice back through the fine mesh strainer 2-3 times to get all the pulp out.
- ADD THE REMAINING INGREDIENTS. Juice your lemons in a citrus juicer or similar and transfer the freshly squeezed lemon juice to the bowl of strained mixture, along with the avocado oil. Give it a nice stir.
- STORING THE WELLNESS JUICE SHOTS. You can store the Lemon Ginger Turmeric Wellness Shots in large mason jars and/or pre-portion the shots in separate tiny glass vials for up to a week in the refrigerator. Any remaining juice can be frozen into cubes and used in smoothies or added to water bottles.
Notes
- You can use either your hands or a vegetable scrubber brush to clean the ginger and turmeric.
- These wellness shots are a bit spicy and sharp due to the ginger, turmeric, and black pepper. To sweeten them up a bit, I occasionally add a splash of elderberry syrup. Although I personally enjoy the taste of the wellness shots on their own, elderberry syrup may make the juice shots more palatable for some.
- You may want to add an extra sprinkle of freshly cracked black pepper to the top of each wellness shot to ensure there is an equal amount in each serving.

I have been enjoying your wellness shot recipes. This ginger-turmeric drink is an anti-inflammatory power shot. It is interesting that you added avocado oil. What is your reason for this? I do know that tumeric is better metabolized in the presence of some form of fat.

I’m so glad you’re enjoying the wellness shots, Kevin! Regarding the avocado oil: yes that’s why! This is from my post above:
